Scrubday

tub full of suds naked boys
follow denim gingham new water

into the east wind sheets drift freshly washed clouds

grandma’s lace patted dry

Threadday

each sock toe each shirt trousers
machines tear wild play rips

thread the needle black for white cloth blue for red

orange for dishcloth roses

Butterday

docile Guernsey touchy Holstein
in separator thick cream

turn the handle hours on end the gang swimming

fresh bread and gooseberry jam

Eggday

Big Red crows moon over the barn
feathers fluffed each cluck an egg

among nettles free-range near the wheelbarrow

red wagon on a dusty road

Pieday

cherries pitted green apples cored
oven hot cinnamon air

flakey crust the tops egg washed packed for market

filberts fresh from the tree

Townday

hitch the team load the wagon
pocket full of change fair’s in town

Mam shows wares Pap finds jug pennies burn pocket

dreams of stolen kisses

Bookday

avast take that varmit
gallop across moors a shot wide right

swing through trees rocket into space save the girl

wide-eyed at Grandpa’s fibs

Love it--the tone and the images are great. The "homey" feel is done expertly and the sense of nostalgia is well used

Gary, what a fun read, felt like I was right there on the farm. Such innocent days you capture. Like how you put it all together. Let's go to the county fair!

Ah Mr B. You have always had a talent for capturing the essence of things that we so often forget about in these days of high technology. I wonder sometimes what we would do if all the technology were to be taken from us. Would we remember how to do these things that once those before us did every day?

I like your renaming. They conjur good things that make me feel like I am walking around with a bowl of oatmeal over my head (obscure reference to an old Quaker oatmeal commercial). *LOL*

wolf hugs and nehi flavored lifesavers,

A wonderful read Gary. The wording, lack of punc. and the movement allows the images to spill onto the page... truly inspiring, thanks.

Sis, thanks. These came from the dishtowels my mother used to sew - Monday to wash, Tuesday to iron, etc. I loved those things with their kittens and rabbits.

Thanks, Lia and Sis for the kind words.

Gary

BTW, most of the way we live really is low tech...

Laurie, I agree. For different tastes.

Thanks.
